Girly men of Japan: Definitions vary, but the new herbivores [effete men] could be described as metrosexuals without the testosterone. Although most of them are not homosexual they have in common a disdain for the traditional accoutrements of Japanese manhood, and a taste for things formerly regarded as exclusively female. Girly men have no interest in fast cars, career success, designer labels and trophy women. Instead, they hold down humble jobs, cultivate women as friends rather than conquests and spend their free time shopping at small boutiques and pursuing in Japan what is regarded as a profoundly feminine pastime: eating cakes.
{...}
Japanese women, according to Professor Yamada's research, have not caught up. Two out of five say they wish to marry a man who earns at least 6 million yen (£40,000) a year -- but such men make up only 3.5 per cent of the eligible population. The result of such unrealistic female expectations is a generation of men, and women, who may never marry and have children.

Walked around Tokyo today. Rainy in the morning. Rainy forecasts for entire stay here.
Revisited Harajuku and Omotesando – less fun this time around – had reminded me of Covent Garden backstreets two years ago, but this time it was dull. No interesting clothes to buy for myself or as gifts.
Then went to Shibuya and then Roppongi. Had tea and salad on the 45th floor of the new Tokyo Metro tower. MosBurger has stopped selling my favorite menu item: rice patty buns, sliced ginger pork, fried onions.
Bought three books: In the Miso Soup by Ryu Murakami, Grotesque by Natsuo Kirino, and Snakes & Earrings by Hitomi Kanehara. Something about traveling makes me want to read fucked up stories, in the vein of Bret Easton Ellis or Chuck Palahniuk. Will probably visit Kinokuniya tomorrow. Went to Shinjuku last night, but just for looking at its seedy side while exhausted and jet lagged.
Relatedly, "Why We Say Yes to Drugs."

K5 Capsule AV Review: Time Fuck Bandits (2008)

Aka: FREEZE TIME ! TIME FUCK BANDITS/ {タイムファックバンデ
;ィット 時間よ止まれ}
Source/producer: Eros CD / Carribean dot com
Featuring: Nagasawa Rika {長澤りか}
It's not often that mainstream, non-anime Japanese pr0n features science fiction elements---at least not elements which involve time travel and convenience store molestations. This excellent film does however, and revolves around how a bunch of horny geeks use a revolutionary new time-stop device to get laid, usually in public. No fancy special effects or costumes, just hot girls and a stupid premise to move this masterpiece of imaginative fucking forward.

Why the Big 3 Bailout is Bullshit: Cadillacs Made in China

First, they say that between 160,000 and 3 million manufacturing jobs are on the line, but then turn around and blame the unions (the organization that represents those workers). In fact, foreign (mainly Japanese) automakers employ almost as many Americans as the "Big 3" do (113,000). Helping GM, Ford, and Chrysler could actually hurt those American auto-workers at non-Big 3 factories. Moreover, even according to optimistic estimates, the crappy clunkers Detroit has been making for years will be far less feasible in the coming worldwide depression than the smaller, cheaper more sensible Japanese brand cars which are (by % of parts/labor) MORE AMERICAN than the "American" cars. (GM parts are often made in China, whereas cars like the Honda Accord are 70% American-made).
